printable version 4 Sep 2007   powergas to develop and operate singapore's lng terminal   PowerGas Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore Power, has been designated to develop and operate Singapore’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal by the Energy Market Authority.    PowerGas will develop the terminal on a 30 hectare site which is currently being reclaimed on Jurong Island. Construction is expected to begin in 2009, with the terminal scheduled to be operational by early 2012. In the initial phase, the terminal will have a send-out capacity of three million tonnes a year.   Mr Quek Poh Huat, group CEO of Singapore Power and chairman of PowerGas, said: “We are delighted that PowerGas has been designated to develop and operate the terminal. The LNG project will diversify Singapore’s sources of energy as LNG can be shipped from overseas countries to the terminal. The operation of the terminal will be a natural fit with PowerGas’ existing role as owner and operator of Singapore’s gas pipeline network, as the terminal will be an extension of this network.”   About PowerGas PowerGas Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore Power, is the gas transporter and system operator in Singapore.
